Eibar midfielder Dani García spoke in a pre-match press conference ahead of his side’s match against reigning league champions Atlético Madrid, aware of the challenge awaiting his team, whilst also hoping that the newly promoted Eibar can hurt Atlético.

“We’re two teams who compete very well”, García said. “They have more quality but whoever is more competitive will win. If we give them the ball and back off, we will lose.”

García admitted that despite winning the season’s opening match against Real Sociedad, it will be very difficult for Eibar to beat Atlético at the Vicente Calderón.

“Saturday’s match, for us, will be like the Champions League final for them. Their budget is multiple compared to ours and they’re very strong, but we try to hurt them. All of the teams have weak spots and we try to exploit them.”

García also spoke about coach Gaizka Garitano, who has followed Atlético closely.

“He likes Atlético a lot and emphasizes the characteristics of their players. They’re ‘bullies’ and they have a lot of quality in the midfield and up front. The good thing is that we’re football fans and we’ve seen many of their matches. We’ve seen them compete a thousand times, but certainly they will still surprise us.”
